Devil’s Courthouse

Climbing to the summit of Devil’s Courthouse (5,720′) is a worthwhile 3 mile round trip excursion from the Art Loeb Trail. There are several good campsites along the MST between the Art Loeb and Devil’s Courthouse. This section of trail is fairly moderate and very beautiful so it makes for a very pleasant side trip. Make sure to obey the signs posted and stay on the trail to protect sensitive vegetation and wildlife.

From the intersection of the Art Loeb and the Mountains-to-Sea trail at Silvermine Bald, continue following the MST southwest away from the Art Loeb. In a mile you’ll pass by the intersection with the Little Sam Trail on your right. Continue following the MST. After .2mi the MST will turn downhill to the right. Continue straight to follow the spur trail, leaving the MST. Here’ you’ll reach the Devil’s Courthouse trail and the final .2mi of steep climbing that leads to the rocky summit where there are viewpoints in all directions. You’ll return the same way you came. In total you’ll add about 500ft of elevation gain on the trip out and back
